BackCountry Survival

Nature is beautiful but also unforgiving. Weather conditions in Central Oregon change quickly, particularly in the mountains. An injury or accident can render even the best prepared hiker or hunter powerless to return to safe haven. We believe you can increase your odds of survival by learning as much as possible about the back country, by preparing yourself with the proper gear, and by providing critical information about your planned outing to family or friends. This information should include as a minimum your destination, planned route out and back, your planned departure time, and your planned return time.

Print this Pamphlet and leave the completed Outing Plan with family, friends, or neighbors and on the dashboard of your vehicle.

Be sure to carry food, water, adequate fuel, warm & waterproof clothing and boots. Do not rely on electronic devices (such as dashboard GPS units) for navigation as the electronic maps may be out of date, or may guide you to impassable back roads.

Although neither the Crook County Sheriff's Office nor Crook County Sheriff Search and Rescue organizations assume any liability for the following forms (i.e., missing information, etc.), we suggest you review the ideas presented there and consider using those ideas for your outings.

The forms are in the universal Adobe Document format; if you don't already have the FREE Adobe Reader, you can get it here:
